What Now?
almost 5 years ago – Tue, May 07, 2019 at 12:14:58 AM

This has been our biggest project ever, surpassing our previous records for both funding total and number of backers! Thank you all for you support, we literally could not do it without you. This book is going to be monstrous and dreadful, and I hope you're all very happy with yourselves.

So, what now?

Well, right now, we're working to get the Backerkit pledge manager set up. This will allow you to input your address and select your add-ons, as well as alter your pledge level (if, for example, you pledged as an Upgrader and wish to...well...upgrade).

We'll be sending out those invites once we receive the funds from Kickstarter, which takes two weeks, so keep an eye on your emails around the 20th.

We'll try to keep to a fairly regular schedule of updates to keep you informed of our progress. There are still some monster types which we didn't get round to previewing over the course of the campaign, which may well find their way to an update near you to keep your ghastly appetites well and truly whetted.

Right. Guess we've got to write all those stretch goals now...

Another Personal Record!
about 5 years ago – Thu, May 02, 2019 at 11:19:55 PM

Hi All,

This is just a quick update to let you know that as of right now we have passed our all time most funded project which was Treacherous Traps that had $161,691 in funding!

Thank you so much for your continued support! Please help us to continue the momentum we've built up!

The End Is Nigh!

Less than 10 hours left! Goodness me!

Thank you all so much for helping in the development of this horrid and accursed tome - with your help, we've added so much cool stuff to this already cool book! It's been one hell of a ride, and it looks like we may well end up beating our previous record for a Kickstarter campaign (head over to our Facebook page to throw your hat in the ring with a prediction for where we'll end up - closest without going over wins a prize!)

If all of you could share the link out on social media, that would really help us give this thing as strong an end as it deserves! Tag friends, enemies, local necromancy circles, you know.

Oh! And if you're not on there already, our Discord is growing into a really nice community, and probably the easiest way to chat with the Nord team about specific topics - check it out at https://discord.gg/cDX3me6, and say hi!

Now, to play us out. As they say, life's a lich and then you never die...

The corpse moves with an elegance and precision belied by its withered form. Desiccated flesh clings tight to the contours of underlying bone. In the pits of its long-empty sockets, twin stars glow with inscrutable intelligence. As it raises a staff in a skeletal, ring-encrusted hand, power thrums, oppressive and heavy in the air. Its jaw opens, and words pour forth, ancient and terrible, harsh and profane, powerful and forbidden. It is without pity, without remorse, without soul.

Notes: Seller claimed this was the phylactery of the lich known as The Eternal Queen. Hinges suggest a large interior space, though I have been unable to open it to attest to the story’s veracity.

Seller claimed the lich was defeated, but I swear I can hear it whispering.

File for resale. Urgently.

Ralph: Liches are such a staple of D&D, and it was great to get stuck into them. We've got three main types of lich (apocryphal, blight, and profane), each containing individuals of different severity, all the way up to CR 23, making them some of the hardest hitters of the book, and worthy of being the final big bad for a high level group! Liches might be one of the creatures I have come to despise the most over the course of writing; other creatures may have evil natures, but the choice every lich makes that their continued existence is worth the sacrifice of hundreds (if not thousands) of living humanoids, each with their own hopes, dreams and lives, is truly vile, "Hundreds of souls reduced to tinder in the furnace of one monster’s ambition," as Kofran Weima puts it in his open letter, Why I Turned From Lichdom .

As a side note, the lich artwork is some of my favourite so far, running the gamut from the antlered monstrosity of the blight lich magus to the jewel-encrusted profane lich magus, based on the decorated skeletons of catholic saints (once its coloured, its going to be gaudy as hell and you're all gonna love it!)

See you on the other side,

Ralph and Lou
